“Your Silence Will Not Protect You”: An Antidote for Inaction (Non-Fiction)

Reading is a quiet and subversive act, it takes time, it requires the reader to sit with and to withdraw from their immediate surroundings. For the white reader, those surroundings are informed by recent imperial and colonial pasts; and so it is through the act of reading we can hope to corrode and expose hidden structures and make plain obscured insidious pasts which continue to inform our present. In doing so there is a hope that the reader may return to their immediate surroundings with the knowledge and the awareness that has always been needed to realise a world where all are free from an oppressed past.
