What I’ve Been Reading Recently – Liv (Jan ’24)

It might be the first month of the new year, but my reading so far has been centred around seconds: from eagerly anticipated follow-up novels from authors whose debuts I loved, to long-awaited second-in-a-series. I also read my first Jennifer Clement, and immediately followed it up with a second (and am currently reading a third!).

Plus, I’ve found a new all-time favourite in Samantha Hunt’s utterly incomparable The Seas. A dark, fevered coming-of-age story (my favourite kind), this novel was as sinister and seductive as a siren’s song, and earned an immediate place on my favourites shelf. I actually bought this during my very own Reading Spa at Mr B’s, way back from before I worked here – and somehow have only just gotten round to reading it!? It’s easily the best thing I’ve read in years – so gorgeous and atmospheric and strange. So a special shout out and thank you to Hannah for sending me away with it (and sorry it took so long to get round to it)! <3
