The Booksellers’ Gambit

Mr B’s is home to several keen chess players. We’re not necessarily any good, but we’re definitely keen; if you listen carefully outside the staff room you will sometimes hear the gentle tap tap of a chess game in progress. And because we’re booksellers, we also like to read about chess, whether that be fantastic novels that hinge on the action of a chess board, biographies of grandmasters, or strategy guides.  Here is a curated list of some of our favorites, as well as useful introductory guides for children and beginners.
