Some Proper Heroines for Young Girls

The recent phenomenal success of “Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls” (which should be in every young girl’s library) has given way to a welcome cascade of new inspirational story-book and non-fiction titles for young girls that leave old-school sappy heroines trailing in their wake. But then there have always been proper heroines if you look hard enough – remember that the paper bag princess first called her condescending appearance-obsessed prince a “bum” back in 1980.
