On the evening of Friday 3rd July, The Bookshop Band are making a triumphant return to Bath to kick off celebrations for the Mr B’s 20th Birthday weekend!
At the beautiful Elim Church, the band will play an extended concert peppered with guest appearances. They’ll play some of their classic tracks from years of collaboration with Mr B’s and many other cultural institutions, authors and publishers. We’re promised the reappearance of some deep cuts and early favourites too as, for one night only, they reunite with special guest OG band member Poppy Pitt.
Joining us as special guests for this one-off Mr B’s 20th Birthday Concert will be three authors who are long-term collaborators with Mr Bs and/or The Bookshop Band.
-Award-winning novelist Patrick Gale will be celebrating the release of his latest novel Love Lane.
-Novelist (and former Mr B’s Bookseller!) Naomi Ishiguro will be chatting about her brand new fantasy novel The Rainshadow Orphans.
-And Bath-based novelist for adults, teens and children Joanna Nadin (the very first author to do an event at Mr B’s back in 2006!) will telling us about her latest novel, After Darcy, a part sequel, part reimagining of Pride & Prejudice!
Between the songs, we’ll hear from each of them about their latest books. Signed copies will be available on the night (with 15% off), alongside Mr B’s 20th Birthday merch and The Bookshop Band’s music.
About The Bookshop Band:
The Bookshop Band was born from a conversation between Ben Please and Nic at the Mr B’s counter as we sought a way to add music to our author events. For 16 years since, Ben and Beth Porter (his partner first in music and then in life) have written and performed songs inspired by books.
Starting off with many years creating and performing songs at a breakneck pace for the Mr B’s author event programme, The Bookshop Band has gone onto tour bookshops, music venues and festivals in the UK, Ireland, Continental Europe, Canada and the U.S. and to work with authors from Philip Pullman to Margaret Atwood.
