That strange beast called the essay
Difficult to define but such a joy to read, re-read and ponder over in its many guises. Here are just a few (and I repeat a few!) of our favourite essay collections, from the profound ecological philosophy of Wendell Berry to Jesmyn Ward’s explosive essays (and poems…) about race. We’ve consciously restricted it to collections rather than book-length essays. For the latter: watch this space.
