Graphic Novels: Best of 2021

In such a strong year for graphic novel adaptations it’s no surprise that there’s been a huge groundswell of interest not just for the more mainstream, but also for the more off-the-wall graphic novels and comics. Although a bunch of these are already favourites (I’m looking at you, Barry Windsor-Smith!) they fully deserve their place on any and every graphic novel round up so I couldn’t resist including them.

Whereas the first four books are all published this year, the second round of four are my favourite which I just happened to read this year. All fantastic, but ‘Monsters’ by Barry Windsor-Smith, ‘Middlewest’ by Skottie Young, and ‘Man Without Talent’ by Yoshiharu Tsuge have got to be my standouts.
