The thing about stuff is that it can be so useful and so nice to have around as long as it just does the thing it’s supposed to do or stays in the place where you put it. It’s when your stuff – like your car or your hat or your bowl – starts to move of its own accord, or whisper, or change your character or narrate books, that things tend to get a bit unnerving.
