Close, but No Cigar

With England into the final of Euro 2020, the whole country is behind them and success is surely guaranteed…. But just in case the unthinkable happens and they aren’t crowned champions on Sunday, here are a few books that only just failed to take a top prize but have gone on to do alright anyway. These were all finalists for either the Booker Prize or the National Book Award, yet somehow none of them managed to win!
