Children’s Graphic Novels: Best of 2021

Children’s graphic novels are always fun to uncover – there’s such a huge interest in them nowadays that the range of artwork and writers seems to be exploding. from small town detectives in ‘The Leak’ to magic wielding siblings in ‘Hooky’ to Ghibli-esque adventure in ‘This Was Our Pact’, there’s a wonderful depth to these stories as well as breadth of stories.

As per my other lists, the first four are graphic novels published this year, and the last four are my favourite that I just happened to read this year. Amongst the latter are some much younger graphic novel / picture book cross overs – just perfect for kids who are around 5-7 that deserve a lot of love! ‘Nightlights’ by Lorena Alvarez and ‘Leo and the Gorgon’s Curse’ by Joe Todd-Stanton weren’t published this year, but with their divine artwork and heartfelt stories they are certainy worth checking out!
