In the season finale, we talk YA Crime–the genre of the age! Mr B’s Bookseller Rhian shares her favourite YA crime recommendations, before Maureen Johnson, author of the Truly Devious trilogy joins the show.

‘Ellingham Academy is a famous private school in Vermont for the brightest thinkers, inventors, and artists.

Albert Ellingham, an early twentieth century tycoon, founded the school, but shortly after it opened, his wife and daughter were kidnapped. It became one of the great unsolved crimes of American history.

True-crime aficionado Stevie Bell starts her first year at Ellingham Academy with an ambitious plan: solve this cold case. But something strange is happening.

Truly Devious makes a surprise return. Death revisits Ellingham Academy. Someone has gotten away with murder.’

Crime is the genre of YA at the moment, with so many books coming out so quickly. It’s hard to know what is appropriate for teens and what isn’t. Rhian gives a breakdown of crime books for kids, including a great bridge book from middle grade into YA.

Be sure to tune into this episode for great recommendations and a great story about Maureen working a Haunted House themed restaurant before grad school.
