The Mr B’s Team – where are they now?

To celebrate twenty years of Mr B’s, we’re taking a trip down memory lane – and popping in to say hi to some familiar faces along the way! Some of our former booksellers reflect on life at B’s, from funny memories and favourite experiences, to bizarre questions and brilliant encounters.

This time, we’re hearing from Nicole, who worked here from 2020 to 2022!

A funny memory from your time at Mr B’s?

Callum performing a rap and dance routine behind the counter, while the rest of us were trying to cash up and clear away the wine from an evening event – hard to do when you’re laughing so hard!

What have you been doing since leaving Mr B’s?

I’ve been living in London and working in publishing, in the UK Sales team at Faber.

What book did you love recommending the most to Mr B’s customers?

Trespasses by Louise Kennedy – so beautiful and poignant, and so gripping, it’s still unbelievable to me that this was a debut novel.

What 3 books are currently on your TBR pile?

Palaver – Bryan Washington

Land – Maggie O’Farrell (my most-anticipated book of 2026!)

Down in the Valley – Paolo Cognetti

What was the most bizarre question you were ever asked by a customer?

Not necessarily always bizarre, but tracking down niche out-of-print books off the back of a phone call, where the customer usually knew only either the author name or the title, was always a challenge.

What was your favourite part about working at Mr B’s?

My amazing colleagues, who made coming into work so much fun every day!

Festive fun!
