The Mr B’s Team – where are they now?

To celebrate twenty years of Mr B’s, we’re taking a trip down memory lane – and popping in to say hi to some familiar faces along the way! Some of our former booksellers reflect on life at B’s, from funny memories and favourite experiences, to bizarre questions and brilliant encounters.

This time, we’re hearing from Callum, who worked here from 2020 to 2022!

Callum (third from right!) started in March 2020, just as the pandemic started and we had to operate from behind closed doors!

A funny memory from your time at Mr B’s

Many to choose from! One has to be working with the team to produce Tom Mooney’s, ‘To the Mooney and Back’ which was a collection of Tom’s old journalism work accompanied by Tess’ fantastic art and a bit of chopping and changing of his work by the team to suit the story we wanted to tell.

Of course, mimosas and samosas on my last day were also memorable!

Working hard/hardly working

What have you been doing since leaving Mr B’s?

Consultancy and Project Management. Organising author events and running book consultations both equipped me with the people and organisational skills needed to manage projects.

What book did you love recommending the most to Mr B’s customers?

The Employees by Olga Ravn. I hadn’t read an awful lot of sci-fi but this book stunned me and saw me dive into a sci-fi rabbit hole.

What 3 books are currently on your TBR pile?

  • On this Holy Land by Oliver Smith
  • Travels With Charlie by John Steinbeck
  • Silverview by John le Carre

What was your favourite part about working at Mr B’s?

The Team!

Not quite mimosas and samosas, but it will do!
