Wolf Moon is the story of four fugitives hiding out in the Cantabrian Mountains in 1937, as Franco’s triumphant Guardia Civil hunt the few remaining Republican fighters.
Peppered with action and brimming with tension, Wolf Moon is a testament to enduring loyalty: to a cause, to justice, and to brothers-in-arms. It is also a poignant homage to the families and sympathisers whose fate is to wait and wonder.
If you’d been into the shop seven years ago and had mentioned (even in passing) an interest in Spain, 20th century history, fiction with a strong sense of place, or tense pursuit novels, the chances are one of us pushed Wolf Moon into your hands. First translated into English in 2017, this slim yet powerful novel was passed around the team, and then to customers, with avid enthusiasm. When the novel then went out of print a few years later, it’s fair to say we were bereft. After a chat with our friends at Pushkin Press, it seemed we could make our dream to publish a collaborative special Mr B’s Edition of Wolf Mooncome true. And so we set to work.
We reached out to the brilliant Benjamin Myers, author of The Offing and The Perfect Golden Circle, and asked whether he would let us know what he thought of the book. Safe to say he loved it – we knew he would – and he’s written the most amazing foreword to this modern masterpiece for us. Here’s a glimpse at what he had to say:
“Literature’s purpose is to tell these stories and in Wolf Moon we have a novel that is as historically valuable as it is powerful, as poetic as it is horrific. It is a treasure.”
We are so excited to be able to put this incredible novel into the hands of readers again. The cover has been designed by the team here, and this special edition hardback is limited to just 500 copies, sold exclusively through us at Mr B’s, so secure your copy while you can!
