Time and Tide by Fiona Stafford

This book reminded me how intrinsically linked our human history is with landscape: conservation, artistic inspiration and livelihoods. Fiona’s writing spans hundreds of years, across both personal and social stories. The chapters flow between changing perceptions of wildlife, family legacies, rural life, land management, industrial history, dwindling natural resources, buried history and how these fascinating changes makes Britain so unique. The beautiful writing drew me in from the first few pages. Most importantly, the book reminds us how the modern, complex landscape is a fleeting snapshot of an ever-changing story. We must remember the past and remain hopeful and curious about the future.
