What is it like to be black in Britain today?

Photographer, author and host of Radio 4’s Open Book Johny Pitts and acclaimed poet Roger Robinson set out in a Mini Cooper to drive the coasts of Britain, seeking to answer the question ‘What is Black Britishness?’ Starting in Tilbury, where the Empire Windrush docked in 1948, Johny and Roger transform and illuminate British history through tales that echo across centuries of the black experience from Scarborough to Bristol. The resulting travelogue of photographs, poetry and essays was one of our highlights of the Mr B’s Christmas Catalogue in 2022, and we cannot wait to hear them discuss their book in person.
