Mr B’s is incredibly excited and honoured to announce that we have chosen a new Charity of the Year – Read for Good.
A charity whose dedication to getting books into the hands of children for more than 40 years has really struck a chord with our ethos, we couldn’t be more proud to work alongside them.
Read for Good is a national reading-for-pleasure charity that works with schools and hospitals to unleash the life-changing power of books and stories for children. They provide a regular supply of brand-new books, alongside professional Storyteller visits to brighten the days of children in all the UK’s main children’s hospitals. Their initiatives include Readathon, Track My Read, Brilliant Box of Books, and Read for Good in hospitals.
Read for Good’s mission is to enable, empower and motivate children and young people to discover the joy and life changing benefits of a love of reading. Their work across mainstream and alternative provision schools, hospitals, and other healthcare and community settings throughout the UK has made a truly meaningful impact.
I have been very lucky to see first hand what this amazing charity achieves daily. We have already had the pleasure of working together through the Penguin Indie Bookshop Grant, where we pitched for funding to get books onto the children’s wards at Bath’s Royal United Hospital, the Seashore Centre in Weston-Super Mare, and Great Western Hospital in Swindon.
This is an ongoing partnership with Read for Good, and we are excited to continue working with hospitals across the South West to get as many books as possible into the hands of children who need them.
Seeing how Read for Good operates and how hard the whole team works, it’s impossible to quantify the number of lives that have been changed by the charity. We will be fundraising and raising money for them in any way we can throughout the year, and we would absolutely love your support.
To bring the fundraising year full circle, I am also incredibly excited to announce that I will be running the London Marathon 2027 for Read for Good!
Knowing that the money raised will go directly towards buying books for children who need them most is the most rewarding and inspiring incentive I could ask for. I am so honoured that Read for Good has chosen me to run for them, and the prospect of what we could achieve together brings me so much joy that I can hardly put it into words. It will certainly be a challenge, but I have no doubt that the wonderful community of Bath, the fans of Mr B’s, and readers from every walk of life will get behind us and help us make a real difference.
