Mr B’s and charity Read For Good enacted our first drop-off of books at several local hospitals this week, as part of a new project to get books in the hands of young people who need them most.
Backed by a grant from Penguin Random House, we secured funding to get books into hospitals over the coming months. Becky from Mr B’s and Tash from Read for Good jumped in the car and set off on a very special bookish road trip, hand-delivering boxes of books to the children’s wards at Royal United Hospital, in Bath, Seashore Centre, in Weston-super-Mare, and Great Western Hospital, in Swindon… and found time to stop off for ice cream on Weston Pier!
This project has been made possible thanks to the wonderful Penguin Random House Bookshop Grant Scheme, who kindly chose Mr B’s as a recipient of grant funding to support book projects in our local community.
Becky said: “Seeing the response from the children and hospital staff was incredible. The excitement, smiles and genuine appreciation were a wonderful reminder of just how important access to books and stories can be, particularly for children spending time in hospital. We’re so proud to be able to play a small part in bringing a little bit of joy, escape and adventure to children when they need it most.”
