The Mr B’s Team – where are they now?

To celebrate twenty years of Mr B’s, we’re taking a trip down memory lane – and popping in to say hi to some familiar faces along the way! Some of our former booksellers reflect on life at B’s, from funny memories and favourite experiences, to bizarre questions and brilliant encounters.

This time, we’re hearing from Libbywho worked here from 2010 to 2014!

A funny memory from your time at Mr B’s?

There are so many to choose from! Maybe the time there was a pigeon stuck in the travel section. In the end I think we’re just left him to take his time and have a good browse!

What have you been doing since leaving Mr B’s?

After a brief stint at Foyles and a foray into teaching English as a foreign language, I set up my own book box business with my ex colleague Kate which we ran for 5 years.

I’m now a full time mum to Lyra (full points for the literary name!) and Dylan.

What book did you love recommending the most to Mr B’s customers?

I loved The Knife if Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness and We, the Drowned by Carsen Jensen.

What 3 books are currently on your TBR pile?

I’m currently reading Lucien by J.R. Thornton and have The Warm Hands of Ghosts and Birnam Wood waiting to read.

What was the most bizarre question you were ever asked by a customer?

I vividly remember choosing books for customer’s family members at Christmas based on little to no information. “Oh yeah. I’m sure your father in law will love this Deep South murder mystery!”

What was your favourite part about working at Mr B’s?

The team, the cups of tea behind the counter and, of course, the books! I have very fond memories of my years at Mr B’s; I can’t believe it was so long ago! Mr B’s was always a sanctuary for so many book lovers and seeing it go from strength to strength is so exciting. What an achievement!
