Mr B’s are so excited to be supporting the launch of The EVOL Algorithm with our friends down the road at the Worldbuilders of Queen Street! Join these wonderful neighbours of ours for their launch of K. M. MOKE’s beautiful sci-fi debut. The authorship are unique in themselves; a trio creator, writer and illustrator who will bring you into their own adventurous, nerve-racking and thrilling 10 year journey that has formed the making of EVOL. The story follows Matargo and their parental mech, P, as they navigate a world left in ruins. But this isn’t a dystopia; it’s a utopia in the making. “What the world needs now is optimism and hope,” says writer, Kelley Townley. “And this is more than just a story, it’s a promise of better things to come.”
“EVOL is one of the most original, ingenious and intriguing science fiction stories that I have read for a while. In these days of rampant AI and all the attendant worries and alarms that this overwhelming gift or curse is bringing to all humanity, it is comforting and exciting to encounter a story where the developing relationship between an AI and a young human is at the tremulous core of the story.” – David Fickling (editor and publisher of Philip Pullman)
About the book
THIS IS NOT A DYSTOPIA.
IT’S A UTOPIA IN THE MAKING.
Matargo and the other children live in paradise, under the watchful eye of their mechs.
Until the day they Float. No one talks about what happens afterwards.
Or what exactly the giant black sphere of nothingness above them is.
Why would they? They’ve never known a day of fear or suspicion in their lives.
Like lambs. Awaiting slaughter.
The publisher said, “If a cosy coming of age sci-fi could somehow be His Dark Materials meets Interstellar, then EVOL would be it.”
About the authorship
K. M. MOKE is the authorship trio of creator Mark Warrick, artist Oliver Hurst, and writer Kelley Townley. From humble beginnings spent worldbuilding in the local café, to fully-fledged sci-fi world emanating from their residence at a Georgian townhouse studio in the city of Bath in England. The authorship created The EVOL Trilogy through a shared philosophy of transformative storytelling and the desire for authentic experiences in a bustling world, with a dash of old-fashioned optimism thrown in, and just a sprinkling of unconventionality.
