A love letter to the ephemeral and transformative magic of fog.
With a photographer’s eye, Laura details the beauty that is often overlooked for this weather type. She feels an elemental connection which drives an obsession to chase fog wherever she can, including her local Severn Vale, the East Anglian Fens, Snowdonian mountain tops and Venice canals. In unexpected ways she witnesses fog interact with the various landscapes and discovers the stories that fog haunts them with.
Chasing Fog is a personal piece of writing about the effect of fog on oneself, the sensation of permeability it gives us with the natural world. The book is also a fog-linked exploration of mythology, history, literature, art, witchcraft, ecology and climate.
I found myself absorbed in the writing, enjoying the legends and stories discovered. The philosophical musings, surely, will be best thought about on a foggy winter walk through the woods.
