The Golden Gate

In July we transported our members back to 1944 at The Claremont Hotel, California. A former presidential candidate has been murdered. There are plenty of lines of inquiry to follow, but a wealthy family with a history at the hotel are waving too many red flags. They should be untouchable, but Detective Al Sullivan brings a hard-boiled sensibility to the golden age glitz and glamour of this setting., and is on the case.
This is richly drawn with a plot that drives forward to keep you gripped. It’s a real gem, and you won’t want to miss it! I hope you love it as much as I did.

Sanctuary
by Garry Disher
In August we travelled to Australia for some outback noir. The plot centres on accomplished thief Grace as a character from her past begins to close the net around her. It’s wonderfully tense with a pace that rockets along while exploring a sense of morality amidst criminals.
This was a great read, as well as my first Garry Disher novel. I can’t wait to explore more!

The Silver Bone
by Andrey Kurkov
September’s selection was an atmospheric thriller nestled amidst the chaos of the Russian Revolution.
Rich in detail, and tinged with Kurkov’s classic humour and magical realism, we couldn’t wait to share this with our readers. Kurkov has been a firm favourite at Mr B’s for many years, so it was a delight to share his writing with our Crime Syndicate members!
