Mr B's review
‘The Making Of’ is masterpiece of a graphic novel. It follows an artist who can’t quite find his niche as he reluctantly joins a group of amateur artists as they attempt to create an art installation which will put their small town on the map. Not only is the dialogue saturated with the same cutting wit as graphic novelists such as Chris Ware and Adrian Tomine, but the art is an explosion of colourful spreads, any of which could easily be framed. Although Evens rarely adheres to the regularity of graphic novel panelling, his mastery of illustrative structure means that he can display his beautifully loose spreads whilst retaining an easy readability. – Tess
