We are thrilled to welcome adventurer, filmmaker and writer Benedict Allen to Mr B’s to discuss his extraordinary life and his new book, Explorer: The Quest for Adventure and the Great Unknown.
Known for immersing himself among indigenous peoples without phone or GPS, his many expeditions have taken him to the Amazon Basin, the Namib Desert and Papua New Guinea. Said to have almost died at least nine times, it was on this expedition to Papua New Guinea that Benedict was famously reported missing. Join us and get a glimpse into what it’s truly like to be a modern-day explorer…
About the book:
What does it mean to be an explorer in the twenty-first century? This is the story of what first led Benedict Allen to head for the farthest reaches of our planet – at a time when there were still valleys and ranges known only to the remote communities who inhabited them. It is also the story of why, thirty years later, he is still exploring. Benedict decides to journey back to a clouded mountain in New Guinea to find an old friend called Korsai, and to fulfil a promise they made as young men.
