Paperback Ramblers: Jane Austen
Tue 24 May 2022
2:00pm at Meet in Sydney Gardens, near the rear entrance to the Holburne Museum
This event is sold out!
Please note, this is the meeting postponed from Tuesday 19th April.
In five years of running the Paperback Ramblers, I’ve somehow never organised a walk with Jane Austen as its subject. That’s about to change with the very first walk of our 2022 programme.
For this month’s meeting, we’ll be walking in the footsteps of Catherine Morland, the heroine of Northanger Abbey. Beginning at Sydney Gardens, we’ll walk a 3-mile loop incorporating river and woodland, as well as a 300ft hill rewarding incredible views of the city.
This walk is from Andrew Swift’s excellent On Foot in Bath walking guidebook. His walk description contains a wealth of historical information about the places we’re walking, and the book contains lots of other fascinating walks around Bath. It’s available to purchase, along with Northanger Abbey and any other Jane Austen titles you might want to read, at this link: Paperback Ramblers April 2022 Books List.
We’ll mainly be discussing Northanger Abbey, but if you’ve already read it then feel free to read any other Jane Austen novel and bring that along for a wider discussion of the author’s work.
If you’d like to come on this walk, please enter your name and email address using the form below. I’ll send you an email one week before the walk with additional details. If you’ve got any questions about this walk or anything else to do with the Paperback Ramblers, send me an email at sam@mrbsemporium.com
