Victoria has a reputation for peeling back the things we take for granted to reveal the epic stories of our everyday lives. Having tackled the magic of colours in her wonderful book Colour: Travels Through The Paintbox, she now turns her attention to fabrics in Fabric: The Hidden History of The Material World.
Crossing cultures, class and continents, Victoria brings the rich history of these everyday essentials to vivid life. From the Welsh valleys, where women sew funeral clothes over cups of tea, to the dazzling colours used by Guatemalan weavers, to the unique scent of Harris Tweed and the people of Papua New Guinea beating tree bark into cloth. Victoria explores not only the peculiar science and spellbinding art of these fabrics, but also the extraordinary human stories behind them.
This is sure to be a fascinating exploration of how we work, create and live.
Join us as we chat to Victoria about this incredible book, followed by a Q&A with the audience.
Doors at 6:30pm for a 7pm start. Tickets include a glass of wine, and 15% off any books purchased on the night.
