Sarah Moss’s concise, subtle prose has long captivated us here at Mr B’s, and now we’re lucky enough to welcome this brilliant UK novelist and travel writer to Bath to introduce her startling new book.
Set against a threatening landscape, fraught family dynamics and a brutal Iron Age way of life, it’s no wonder that “Ghost Wall” has already found two huge fans in our booksellers Lucinda and Amy. With her exquisite eye for detail, Sarah bring us the story of teenage Sylvia as she navigates a summer of experimental archaeology, largely controlled by her obsessive and disturbed Father. As the season progresses, tensions rupture, violence simmers and the haunting underlying story of a sacrificial Iron Age bog girl comes to light. “Ghost Wall” is a small but mighty novel, told with poignant honesty and seamlessly intertwining themes of gender, class and abuse of power with a coming-of-age tale.
In addition to “Ghost Wall”, Sarah has five other fantastic novels under her belt, including “The Tidal Zone” (Another of Lucinda’s faves!), “Signs for Lost Children” and “Bodies of Light” – all of which have been shortlisted for the Wellcome Book Prize. She’s also the author of “Names for the Sea” – a fascinating account of the year that she and her family spent living among the remote farms and fishing villages of Reykjavik.
Thankfully she’s now back on home soil and excited to join us to chat books at Mr B’s come October!
