Aminatta Forna’s fantastic, multi-layered novels have long been proudly displayed upon our Mr B’s favourites shelves, so we’re delighted to finally bring their brilliant author to Bath to introduce her brand new book “Happiness” – a story full of migrants and relocators, be they human, animal or avian…
Set over the course of a single week in a very familiar modern London, “Happiness” is a tale of two vividly-drawn characters, whose lives seem destined to continually collide. Attila is a Ghanaian born psychiatrist, about to deliver a keynote speech about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder at a huge international medical conference. Jean, an American, has recently arrived in the UK on a mission to study the behaviour of urban foxes and to adorn Londoners with little patches of wild garden to break up the urban sprawl. In the abandoned car park beneath the National Theatre, the alleyways that lead to the kitchen door of the Savoy, the underbelly of shiny London, Atilla and Jean will find their lives intersecting over and over again, initially by coincidence and later by design.
An already massive fan of Aminatta’s previous novel “The Hired Man”, our Nic (AKA Mr B) was once again wowed by the power and subtlety of her writing, in which the real story always seems to lurk just below the surface.
Join us this Spring as we introduce one of contemporary fiction’s most insightful writers and her relevant, emotive new novel.
