Another of our long-time favourite writers will tread the boards of the bibliotherapy room this April, as we introduce son of Hungarian basketball players turned Booker-Prize-nominated-author, Tibor Fischer to our Spring events schedule.
Our Lucinda has been championing “Under the Frog” – Tibor’s funny, stoic, coming-of-age debut about a basketball player trying to circumvent the hardships of 1950’s communist Hungary – since her own book-selling debut in 2010. And now she has a new Tibor Fischer novel to rave about.
“How to Rule the World” is set in the London of the here and now, and follows the ups (and mainly) downs of documentary filmmaker Baxter. Broke, and with his years of experience and know-how seemingly brushed aside by the Youtube generation, Baxter desperately tries to salvage some artistic integrity in the face of financial necessity. Tibor’s trademark black humour is evident in every one of Baxter’s rants against modern society – but does his protagonist have more to fear from his own shady past, than the future?
Find out and meet the man himself, as we bring Tibor to Bath to introduce his darkly comic, weird and wonderful new satire.
