Mr B’s Famous Walking Book Group the Paperback Ramblers – Foraging Walk & ‘Four Hedges’ by Clare Leighton
Sat 25 Aug 2018
2:00pm at TBC
For our August meeting, we’ve got a special treat: a guided foraging walk! Our experienced and knowledgeable guide will lead us on a tour of Bath’s best foraging spots. At the same time we’ll have an opportunity to talk about the relationships between people, food, animals and nature. Our book for the month is ‘Four Hedges’ by Clare Leighton, one of the finest engravers of the twentieth century. ‘Four Hedges’ is the story of the garden she carved from meadowland deep in the Chiltern Hills in the 1930s: by observing the seasonal changes in her landscape, she grew familiar with its wildlife and character, forming a bond which fed her work as an artist and contributed to the happiest years of her life. A classic of British nature writing. Buying through our website will get you a discount on the book.
Please note that we won’t be coming away with trugs of foraged goods: a large group doing that would cause too much damage. The walk with give you some tips and locations to follow up in the future.
